Now that the Dhool controversies are over, I finally am willing to come out from behind my rock and actually start blogging for KLKillahs again.
Its tough enough being a woman, but God definitely made you out of steel if you’re Indian and woman. We weren’t born with handbooks on how to deal with the boys (with built-in sarakku radars) and kaypoh aunties at weddings who merely want to know if you made it to Medicine like their soda-patti kanaadi daughters [glasses with lenses resembling the bottom of soft drink bottles, old school like]. Fret not for the KLKween is here to solve your woes. The frustration is over. Battle the KLKs and do it with style.
There’s the other bigger issue of being an Indian girl – being called a “Doke”. I’ve tried my level best to find some kind of information as to which KLKockster came up with this term or how it could have possibly evolved to have denoted a slut. Unfortunately, its still a mystery. If there’s anyone out there who has a clue, please kindly get in touch with us. I’ve never quite understood this term or how a woman/girl becomes termed a “Doke”. I’ve been in the position many times before when people have very haphazardly spewed the word out at me or at other women. It is quite disturbing.
Are you a doke because you dance at clubs? Because you go to clubs? Because you’re friendly and you do smile at people without believing they could actually take that as some slut-tendency? It is at this juncture where society rears its ugly head. Ever wondered why there isn’t a male term for a slut? What about a guy who doesn’t quite think of the consequences and would bed anything that has two legs and walks [never mind the walk part, just the being alive part is fine]? Are we so hypocritical that we would go to any level to judge a person merely on the first impression we see? True enough, one might argue that this is prevalent in any society, but honestly speaking I have rarely heard of such a widely existing term as “Doke” in any of the other societies around us.
Would we ever be content with the characters of the women around us? If she’s too stuck up or refuses to smile at you, you would mutter, “Aishwarya Rai-nu periya nenappu”(She thinks she is Aishwarya Rai). If she’s friendly and smiles at you or even makes conversation with you, she immediately gets termed as being easy or being a slut. What does this mean? Should all women just lock themselves up in their rooms till they get married and then live vicariously through their husbands? Or does this mean war? Should we start terming overly friendly men as some kind of sleaze bags?
What is that we want in this society which apparently respects equality? Doesn’t equality imply some sort of equal respect devoted to people regardless of gender? Or are we still stuck in some sort of a caveman mentality where we want to marry a virgin but mess around with the rest of the girls you deem as easy? What shall we do ladies?
I say we fight back. Don’t take it lying down. Firstly, don’t make yourself the enemy. Women who cannot support women are traitors and hypocrites. Don’t sit back and laugh if someone were to term anyone else you know a “doke” for it doesn’t mean that just because they didn’t term you a “doke” that its okay. It doesn’t matter cos you’re a woman too. For the men, remember everytime you deem another woman a slut, you’re merely insulting someone who could have been your mother/sister/daughter or even wife.

ahha! fire!Okay...doke means very different things around the world, but me dont know wat it means...other than that which is used. All said, we call em POP's here in Msia...power of ...oh nevermind.
Hemm...the society is dragged down to its sakadai state long time ago, even activists will scold women, men with all kind of stuff.
The real way to fight this is not to go against it, if you stay out of the loop then they will get stronger, just try to change the mindset of the people by changing the attitude of the accused.
Other than that, dont b angry...Global Warming is much worst... :p
I think this article is by the far the worst by klkillahs..
equality aint happening simply cos man and woman will never be equal..
what needs to be done is simply equal rights for all...
I Think This is a Good Write Up for all the indian men in Singapore who think they are superbly modern but bloody hell having a so-maama-like-typical thinking..but unfortunately those idiots wouldn't bother reading this as, they are just simply idiots who hardly read good meaningful stuff..which affects them big time.. :P
keling kween is backkkkk lahhhhhhh! and she doesnt seem to be a very pleasant mood. i wish quick and painless death for those who dare to stand in her path, because id make a fuckin run for it if i were you.

you're a fuckin twat, and a stupid fuckin twat at that who needs to give a little more thought to what you type before you post. Embarrassing knob.
Never heard the word doke before to be honest.
Just look at our movies, you have "heroes" who slap women who are too haughty, and the next thing you know the girl falls in love with the dude for being "man" enough to put her in her place.
And I have seen comedy skits in the same movies where the guy kicks the wife while she's on the ground, and it's supposed to be funny. K fine I haven't watched Tamil movies in like 6 years, maybe it's different now. Hopefully.
But yeah ultimately Indian women need to make a stand to not be treated with disrespect. Unfortunately not many do, too many women put up with crap by guys, for reasons I cannot fathom.
Hi Guys....
The term 'Doke" was actually the word dock. I heard this from my uncle who is his in fifties as to why this term?
As it seems, when most indians were PSA workers back then in the 60's,70's & 80's, many a ship comes to drydock in our yards. As we know that ships are identified with the female gender and many ppl actually work on the ship during the drydocking process, the indian workers came out with the term "dock" to degrate the so called "loose" women. With time dock became doke! This is not my own assumption but something i heard! I definately hate that word being used on anyone and i applaude KLKween for bringing this issue to our attention!

wow! my articles made it to daylight!!!! wheeeee... and i'm seriously enlightened with all those origins about the word Doke. but guess what? i think we should all eliminate the word!!!!!!!
oh and anonymous: i admit that equality is a far-fetched dream because of our biological inequalities. fair enough. but this article was not about trying to make the world an equal place, its about equal respect and i don't think thats very much for anyone to be asking for. to each his own though :)
the ppl who name the gals, who jus happen to be friendly or were in clubs, are the typical indian guys, as far i've observed. that's the word that comes out of their mouth, cos that's how little they know. it's sorta maybe, cool, cos their anjadi frens use it or they jus wanna act tough by sayin that.
not only guys say that to girls, even girls call another girl a doke. i've heard this in an interchange, where an anjadi girl was sayin that this particular was a doke, all bcos she was talkin on the phone!i mean how dumb is that.
There's nothing to say to these people, cos nothin's gon get into their head's that has an IQ of a snail.
People who aren't ignorant and as stupid, would know better then to label anyone that.
And for the guys who say that, they're the ones screwing every girl and are in NS for 6 years instead of 2, and are simply unemployed.
Did alil survey of my own and true enough the word "doke" orginatd from the word "dock".
Not because ships were considered female or anything apparently, but because of the notion that ships "enter and leave" the dock. Therefore, the lady who offers her "dock" for the most number of men's "lethal weapons" are ridiculed with that term.
But with the amount of effin idiots using that term already, the only way to eradicate the term would be to make sure the next few generations are never exposed to the it.Which i think is alil impossible at this point of time..what do you guys think?
Kween...
equal rights to stuff like jobs and education great. trust me I would fight for that too, but ur article comes across as simply a hasty writted one.
I agree with her to some extent.I've always found it quite peculiar that it is the gals in our society who get the so called "bad name" guys lend up to a max of... playboy? hm... not fair indeed... equality in both good and bad... thats a better way to see it as...but kween... u seem to have written that post a little too personally... emotions showed thru it... wont convince readers of its fair point of view

i think the gals should work towards creating a more civilised point of view in such matters... rather than to fight it...
no personal opinion involved. trust me, i leave that for my personal blog. and what is an article without emotions involved? we can only write about things that affect us and i do agree that there are wonderful men out there who love their indian women and do not subject them to such words. but equally, there are these men who have such an opinion and most of us can attest to having seen it before. sorry if i sounded personal but it is something i feel strongly about and i am entitled to having that bit of personal opinion in anything i write. cheers!
i agree with that though... there are the wonderful men... like you mentioned.. and lousy ones like u mentioned too... there are ladies...good and ladies we are embarrased of ourselves... however... such words and thoughts.. should be given a thought before uttered.. and opinions of such matters in a more moderated manner... athu ..azhagu...
doing naught but spending the time labling people for one's own amusement aint the noblest of hobbies really...
P.S. i like your vegam and veri! The things i wish to be...

Hi,
Thanks sajni for making it clearer y tat term!
Anywayz if you have really observed, this D word is usually uttered by usually the anjex "boys" who can't usually get the women of their choice to bed. In order not to lose "face" they start hallucinating of things tat never took place and brag to their makkals abt how they did the gal and blah blah....In the end to top off this convo, they just label that gal as a "D"...so my point is, that the gals who are subjected to this labelling are usually those who actually refuse these boys advances rather than those who r frenly and mingle freely with guys in clubs. comments????
