Maamas in Denial

We often talk about racism and how we've been unfairly judged by the colour of our skin for as long as we could have been. Sadly though, i think that the fault doesn't always just lie with the nearsighted people of other races. In fact, I've come to know of people who belong to this breed i deem M.I.D (Maamas in Denial). Name has been masked to protect identity.

He says: i was quite surprised by the number of photos with indian girls [For the blurred: we figure this is about some girl he's checking out in Friendster]

KLKween says: why? are Indian girls meant to be alienated from society?

He says: hahaha no la

KLKween says: i think its highly disturbing that u keep making indian women the exception..as if chinese girls are the only ones allowed to be clubbing/partying or even living the high life..

He says: i didnt think she would be the type to have a best friend as indian la.. dont worry im not being racist really. fuck im indian.

KLKween says: glad u realised.

He says: really didnt mean anything..okay so what do u think of her

KLKween says: am i supposed to think any differently of her because her best friend is Indian? i know her from primary school..and thats the last i heard of her. not a great age to be making impressions. and she still looks the same as she did in Primary 3..sweet and nice.

He says: right okay.. haha.. dont be upset la!

KLKween says: about? the fact that you're the worst Indian i know? don't worry. that really doesn't upset me.but just for the record ,not all indians - are typical, beer guzzling maamas who sit down and rattle about tamil movies.many of them are actually pretty intellectual and make a lot more sense.

He says: Yes i know that :)

KLKween says: so perhaps its time to really open your eyes and look carefully. for all you know.. that might just be the reason why u keep seeing the BAD girls.cos you keep forgetting that sometimes you should stay a little closer to home..you speak with such condescension when addressing Indian women. I hope for you, you've not had any bad experiences with any Indian girls.. and even so don't make the hasty "Typical indian girl" stereotype. Because at the end of the day, it was an Indian woman who gave birth to you and probably an Indian woman who would sympathise with you when you're in the dumps. She may not be able to keep up with your high end life or wear your little hot shorts or live the whole fuck and throw life. But guess what? She's actually worth it.

He says: i've actually been told that and yes its probably never the same as being with someone of your own kind but i dont write them off..i dont mean to speak with condescension...im sorry if i gave u that impression....

I never understood why Indian women get written off by men. I've never seen as many Indian girls not liking Indian men as i have seen the other way round. Indian women are considered so exotic and beautiful to the likes of people in so many continents. Yet its so sad isn't it that our dark skin(most of us) and our Indian features and our other psychological aspects are simply shunned by our own men. I'll never understand this phenomenon.

But i leave you with a very apt song.

Indian women tend to leave Indian Men when their Indian Men tend to get too irritatingly possessive, protectre moive and also, being a beautiful liar towards the Indian women...

Now thats a few points..i bet there are more answers for this...

ah... a good issue to look at... i noticed something lately... the women... where are their thali chains? mettis? at least ... a ring? damn they all married... and are they embarrassed abt it? mind you... not divorced either...i've known many gals personally... they dont wear cos they find it embarrasing to wear a thick gold chain... doesnt fit their clothing...toe ring i understand... its difficult to wear with those footwear... no ring on their fingers... when asked... they dont find the need to..simply...

The guys even better... i see a new couple of indian man(that includes both local and from india) with a yg maid... hand in hand... at least weekly.. sad... v saddening... the most saddening part is.. that some of these men's wives know about it... and they make do... "for the family's sake"..

WRT. thalis/ mettis/ rings - They're merely symbols.. hardly representative of how they value their marriages.

the age group i am refering to are early thirties and late twenties...the key is their real intention behind not wearing them... you'll be surprised if u hear their frank answers... are u sure that it has to do with convinience? To many marraige is not absolute... but rather a committment ... a promise... which can be broken.... men are equally accused of such a mindset...

well according to culture/tradition, these marriage symbols were worn as an indication to a single person of the opp sex's marital status.Thats y the thali for the women n metti for the men. It had more to do with the way men n women carried themselves then..eg men looks straight n walk..thus the thali on women to indicate that she's married & women looking at the ground, thus the metti for the married man so as not to send wrong signals....but nowadays that'z not happening! I think both men & women have forgotton the true essence of marriage vows!

Funny that i get more white and black men hitting on me. The indian men that i went with were assholes who were constantly dissing dark indian gurls. I guess they dont realli matter haha.

well the guys dont wear metti since a long time ago... its e ladies who do... whatever the case... i think that these peepz should wear sth to signify their married status... whats the hesitation about?

Dawgster is right at mentioning the diminishing values of married peepz...

MIDs,Divorces,Diminishing Values.. there is truth in all that you say. But not everyone is like that. I am Indian. My wife is also Indian. We have 2 wonderful kids. I love her more than my own life and I know she loves me more than her own life even. As much as there is truth in all that you say, there are also many people like my wife and me. All is not bleak. In these days of rapid change, families all over the world are threatened but there are people who still know what is important in life. There are still many families which suceed and many many of these families are Indian. I am glad for that.

Hi anonymous...

The issue is about why there has been a hike in the no. of divorces in our society lately... obviosly there are the examplery couples and families who live will love and our values which keep the tightly bonded. Like yours... and i am most proud to hear about your family... i aspire to have one like yours... Many wishes and blessings to your beautiful family..

Hi Azzy, thanks for you blessings. Divorces seems to rise in all societies with economic progress. Ours is no exception. But I am keen to know how fast is it rising among Indians (in Spore, India and the West) compared to other communities.Does anyone know? The link provided by Dawgster shows that we still have lower rate than others races. Interestingly divores rates among indians who marry indians is also lower than for indians who marry non-indians. Does this mean that the MIDs are just messing up thier lives? Hehe..
